Ålesund Guide Association organizes guide courses for new members who want to work as certified guides in Ålesund and the district. The course provides the necessary professional foundation to convey the city's history, culture and society in a professional and structured way.

The guide course is suitable for people who:

  • Have good communication skills

  • Fluent in one or more languages

  • Have an interest in local history, culture and society

  • Want to work as a guide for tour operators, groups or individuals

Local knowledge is an advantage, but the course also provides a structured introduction to key topics related to Ålesund and the region.

What does the course include?

Academic foundation and practical training

The course includes, among other things:

  • Norwegian social studies

  • Ålesund's history and development
  • Art Nouveau architecture and the city fire of 1904

  • Culture, business and society

  • Practical guiding, communication techniques and first aid

  • Role understanding and professional behavior

Emphasis is placed on both theoretical knowledge and practical implementation. The course is held according to guidelines from the Norwegian Guide Association.

Part of a professional community

Ålesund Guide Association is a member of the Norwegian Guide Association, and the course is conducted in line with current guidelines for certified guiding.

After completing the course and passing the assessment, participants can become members of the Ålesund Guide Association.
